Roehampton University seeks soldiers’ families for remembrance service


Families of soldiers named on a “unique” war memorial at the University of Roehampton are being invited to attend a remembrance service there on 11 November.

The memorial at the university is 11 metres long and described as “absolutely unique” by the Imperial War Museum; it consists of plaques commemorating 275 men and women who were relatives of the nuns and children attending the Society of the Sacred Heart Convent school, which was located on the Digby Stuart College campus of the university.

Jackie Brown, head of Digby Stuart, said the hope was that some descendants of the people whose names are on the memorial may still live locally, adding: “We have been able to contact some families, but would like to find as many as we can before Remembrance Day.
