Royal baby announcement met with delight from Church leaders

Cardinal Vincent Nichols has spoken of his delight at the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a second child.

In a message on Twitter the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster added: "Our prayers are with the family, and indeed all families awaiting the birth of a child.”

Yesterday’s announcement, which comes just two months after Prince George turned one, was also welcomed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Tweeting from South America, where he is touring the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Welby said: “Wonderful news that the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are expecting second child. Praying for the family, and that morning sickness subsides.”

The child will be fourth in line to the throne.

In a statement Kensington Palace said that both families were delighted, but warned that the Duchess of Cambridge was expected to cancel a number of upcoming appointments because she was suffering from severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum (morning sickness).

She was hospitalised for the condition while pregnant with Prince George.
