Who decides who can and cannot receive Communion (Editorial, 25 February)? For Pope Francis this authority is primarily drawn from the lives of ordinary Catholics. Thus in the cause of subsidiarity and after listening to the sensus fidei, he has asked local bishops to adopt a “case-by-case” approach towards the divorced and remarried who would like to return.
How sad that for the bishops of Poland, Philadelphia and Portsmouth the response to Pope Francis is “No”. This even though a “Yes” would simply mean rubber-stamping what has become the practice in parishes for many years.
