Sharing the Bread of Life


 

The case for renewing the norms of One Bread One Body – the statement of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales on the admission to Holy Communion of members of other churches, issued in 1998 – is made in your editorial (“Bread of Life is food for unity”, 12 November) and by Ruth Reardon (Letters, 19 November).

As an interchurch couple of more than thirty years, my husband and I hope and pray this may begin soon, since we long to be equally welcomed at the Eucharist, bringing with us the lived ecumenical experience of our “domestic church”.

The apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis on marriage and the family, Amoris Laetitia, also gives us hope with its recognition that married couples like my husband and I are “capable of carrying out their own discernment in complex situations” (37).
