Healing wounds
Your front cover headline last week speaks, in relation to Pope Francis’ visit to Sweden, of “A healing of wounds”.

As Roman Catholics have reason to know only too well, and the rest of us have to be penitent about, among the wounds that need healing is the reduction of complex historical events to tendentious slogans. So I was sorry that you followed your headline with one such: “Martin Luther split the Church”. The reverse blame when it appears in Protestant writings is no better.

It just wasn’t that simple.
