The time for Christians to take prominent action being “prepared to be white martyrs” as suggested by Fr Timothy Radcliffe (News from Britain and Ireland, 2 November) has surely arrived. We must deliver a clear message to society’s leaders that we reject the injustices produced by so many of their policies and demand change whilst at the same time making clear to those quietly suffering from the effects of these policies that we are totally on their side.I suggest a lead could be given by the Catholic community during Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2014. In addition to the usual events highlighting poverty and special bidding prayers, every parish in the UK could hold a two-minute silent reflection outside their church at, say, 11 a.m. on Action Sunday, 2 Feb
