“Let schools go to save Catholic education” (News From Britain and Ireland, 14 November) is your accurate headline to the story of Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin’s latest plea to Irish Catholics. By issuing a “wake-up call” in respect of school patronage he once again shows remarkable leadership in Irish Church affairs. Despite the emotional trauma of seeing my own Dublin primary school being the first school to be divested of Catholic patronage, I salute the archbishop’s efforts in respect of greater plurality and the further implication that Catholic schools can thereby strengthen their ethos.
