Richard Leonard’s subversive column (7 November) has left me with some questions. In sub-Saharan Africa, belief in the Devil and in evil spirits is rife. I notice that belief in negative forces thrives best when there is political oppression and economic emasculation of the people. Evil spirits seem subject to an internal logic.
