Slovakia and any other countries that declare they will accept refugees but only those who are Christians are deeply misguided. The very essence of Christianity is that it is inclusive and sees neither creed nor race nor colour as a barrier to compassionate love. The Good Samaritan in Christ’s story did not leave his Jewish brother to die on the roadside because he was different. He took him in, dressed his wounds, delivered him to safety and paid for his ongoing care.Not only are Christians called to heed the cry of the dispossessed today, but to evangelise, too. And what better way to do this than through our lack of discrimination and our generous and compassionate response to refugees?
