Fr Julian Shurgold’s letter indicating his delight at the targeted killing of Reyaad Khan (19 September) and scorn for those who have legitimate questions about this serious policy shift is, if I may say so, deeply disturbing coming from a Roman Catholic priest.His use of the term “so-called” in relation to the simple concrete fact that these men were British citizens is perhaps more than a little indicative of his questionable position. Fr Shurgold may wish to sweep aside international, European and domestic law and insist that Khan and others are legitimate targets for swift execution, but that is the way of the mob. Our response to terrorism must not be to abandon the rule of law and embrace unthinking violence for surely that is just what the terrorists want. Instead
