The Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster has written on behalf of the “Catholic community” to offer a loyal address to the Queen as she becomes the longest-reigning English monarch in history. I am curious to know what exactly he has in mind when he refers to the “Catholic community”. Yes, like the archbishop, I am a member of the Catholic Church and I also serve as a parish priest, but I do not feel that I belong to some warm and cosy “community”. My faith is an important aspect of my life, but that does not mean that because of it I inhabit a specific community, commune or ghetto.
