The real Jorge


 
 I am getting weary of seeing so much on the attitude of Jorge Bergoglio (Pope Francis) to Liberation Theology. While teaching and living with him in the Colegio Máximo in Buenos Aires, I realised that his basic attitude was gospel-formed. He was vividly aware that Jesus spoke of two commandments, love God and love your neighbour – though the two merged together. God had to be first – so the sacramental life and prayer had a priority. But of course the commandment to love and help the neighbour was vital. Bergoglio was greatly committed to this too.However, muddling or reversing these roles did not fit his thinking. He was wary of putting creature before Creator – and so was cautious with some of the then current thinking.Again I think there is too much conce
