Informed by faith


 
Despite Christopher Howse’s contrary asseveration (Books, 25 July), there is no difficulty at all in understanding that Anthony Kenny “remains an agnostic” – Howse says “it is easy to forget”. No it isn’t. His immense Christian cultural background is not informed by faith. He had it, and he lost it. Who are we to judge? His total honesty is humbling to us all.But this also explains why Kenny then goes on to suggest that, in some circumstances, “we might conjecture that (Hans) Küng remained a Catholic because if he left the Church he would have lost ... celebrity status”.
