No lack of protest


 
 I congratulate David Blair (23 May) for highlighting the plight of the Rohingya Muslims but am very worried to find him writing that “there is barely a whimper of protest” in the Arab and Muslim worlds at Bashar al-Assad’s siege of refugee camps or the ethnic cleansing of Rohingyas in Myanmar. All he has to do is surf English-language news channels such as Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya and he will soon find he is grossly mistaken. If he is able to surf Arabic-language channels he will find even more material. There is sometimes a selectivity of conscience in the East (as there is in the West) but Blair’s conclusion that the Rohingyas’ misfortune is that they are not victims of Israel or the West is tendentious.
