I have been involved in the charismatic renewal over the past 50 years and I am quite unaware of the Catholic Church in Scotland being “a shambles”, as James Kelly suggests (Letters, 11 April). This is a vast exaggeration. Because we are a community of sinners does not equate to a Church in “shambles” nor to corruption. Heaven forbid that we should become the Church of the “respectable”. Yes, we must aim high but our perfectionism must be tempered with forgiveness and compassion.
