Shambles’ or not?


 
I have been involved in the charismatic renewal over the past 50 years and I am quite unaware of the Catholic Church in Scotland being “a shambles”, as James Kelly suggests (Letters, 11 April). This is a vast exaggeration. Because we are a community of sinners does not equate to a Church in “shambles” nor to corruption. Heaven forbid that we should become the Church of the “respectable”. Yes, we must aim high but our perfectionism must be tempered with forgiveness and compassion. As for Cardinal O’Brien, my wife and I say of him that he was our friend, he is our friend and he will remain our friend.Jamus Smith, Aberdeenl I find it extremely difficult to accept the mindset of those who urge us to stop raising the issue of Cardinal O’Brien.
