Parish partnerships


 
There is more to partnership than a wealthy parish in Europe helping a financially poor one in the developing world (Letters, 21 February). That is how partnership started; but this is an asymmetrical relationship. Over the years the insight has grown that in a partnership both sides should give as well as receive. This is uncharted territory: what can the poor give the rich? Pope Francis goes as far as saying that the poor are to be our teachers. Some more ideas come to mind. A (poor) Kenyan parish could teach a (wealthy) English parish how the participation of young children can enliven the liturgy. In return, an English parish could teach a Kenyan one how to reduce clericalism. Many Kenyan parishes could teach European parishes how neighbourhoods can be turned into small Christian comm
