A sorry story for Cafod

The comment from Chris Bain, director of Cafod (Notebook, 21 September), that Damian McBride’s work for the aid agency has had no bearing on his political relationships in the past is disingenuous to say the least. McBride’s book, serialised in the Daily Mail and released at the start of the Labour Party Conference, is designed to create as much publicity and to make as much money as possible. His behaviour reflects badly on Cafod with its Catholic ethos. His campaign of calumny against politicians, their wives and families in 2009 was a disgrace. As a long-time supporter of Cafod, for its humanitarian and justice and peace work, I am very sorry that McBride as head of media has behaved in this way.
