I have just read your report (News from Britain and Ireland, 3 January) about Sr Yvonne Pilarski’s appointment as pastoral administrator for two parishes. I served in that role for 12 years in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and found it to be a life-changing experience. Calling forth the gifts of all the parishioners really establishes the parish as “ours”, allowing the parishioners to take ownership and responsibility. I also worked with two priests who served as sacramental ministers who were outstanding collaborators.It would be so beneficial for other dioceses to investigate this model.
