How intriguing to read the pro-intinction letters (29 November, 6 December) and Fr Christopher Jamison’s article “God on the brain” (22 November) with its re-affirmation of the heart and the gut as equally valid sources of knowledge. For most of us who have lived through days of pre-Vatican II practice and subsequent years of slow and almost grudging implementation of the liturgical reforms, reception of the sacrament under both kinds for all, as Christ commanded, is surely a profound joy. To find dusty issues of practicality and hygiene revived yet again makes the heart groan.A year or two ago, a few of us had been with a priest to revisit his alma mater, the English College in Valladolid, and I recall sitting in a Spanish cathedral as we gazed up at the ornate tracery.
