The recent murder by a mob in Pakistan of a Christian couple and their unborn child (The Church in the World, 15 November) is another sad testimony to Christian suffering in Muslim-ruled lands. May I suggest that Christian-Muslim dialogue now needs to include the question of the persecution of Christians? Without raising this question any dialogue between Christians and Muslims would be conducted in an atmosphere of unreality. Worse, it would implicitly send the message that we in the West did not care about the desperate plight of our co-religionists.It is difficult to talk about these things. It can feel impolite to do so. Moreover, in the culture around us there is lazy thinking along the lines of “religion is the cause of violence”. There is therefore pressure on Christian
