Cafod cuts misplaced


 
One aspect of Cafod’s reorganisation (News from Britain and Ireland, 15 November) concerns me and I wonder if it has been given sufficient weight. I began as a Cafod volunteer after the Ethiopian famine of the 1980s. It seemed to me then that fund-raising was not enough; there was also a need to understand and tackle the underlying injustices. I wanted to do this within the context of my Catholic faith and Cafod’s approach of contextual theology helped greatly. With others I was involved in a parish group that tried to learn about the issues and raise awareness of them among a wider audience. Cafod helped where it could but was limited as it didn’t have mechanisms to support local campaigning groups. This changed with the introduction of regional organisers in the late 1
