Sharing Communion


 
I was pleased to read that Sue Oakley’s Anglican husband has been welcomed to join her at Communion in the past few years (Letters, 1 November). However, Kathy Pope has had a very different experience over recent years (Letters, 25 October). The 1993 Ecumenical Directory is interpreted very differently in different places. Some interchurch spouses who express their spiritual need and desire for eucharistic sharing are still told that this is not possible. Others to their great joy are admitted to Communion on an ongoing basis. Yet others are told that they can only be admitted on rare occasions. I hope that the 2015 Synod on the Family will be able to affirm clearly that the need experienced by some of those who “share the sacraments of baptism and marriage” for on-going
