Uncertain gifts


 
Professor Linda Woodhead describes the one in 10 Catholic priests who was formally a Church of England priest as “a significant gift for the Catholic Church in England and Wales” (“Almost 400 Catholic priests once Anglicans”, News, 2 August). I cannot agree.She readily admits that the “coming across” of these priests coincides with the ordination of women in the Church of England. Is an influx of misogynist priests into a Church which is already well represented in that department really something to be celebrated?I wonder if anyone has counted how many women have left the Church in order to test their calling in other denominations that welcome them.
