Faith communities help fight malaria


 
Dr John Kitui (“Defy the global killer”, 28 June) highlights the need for developing countries to mobilise their own resources in the fight against malaria. Surprisingly for a Christian Aid advocate, he does not mention one of their greatest resources: the networks of faith communities and the authority of their leaders as health educators. It is these who often have the capacity to reach the most marginalised and poor communities. Since halting and reversing the spread of malaria became a Millennium Development Goal promise, global campaigns have almost halved malaria deaths through provision of impregnated bed nets.
