The survey of Irish clergy condemning the new translation of the Missal is welcome (News from Britain and Ireland, 14 June). When one hears on the media or attends a Eucharist in the Church of England, one is pleasantly surprised to immediately understand the prayer. Our current rendering is like a series of puzzles where one has about five seconds to work out the meaning before the next battery of clues are heard. The sense is then lost and one is driven simply to ignore what is being said aloud.
