l Pope Francis’ impromptu stop to pray at the separation wall, as reported in The Tablet (“Trust where it is needed most”, 31 May), and his time spent with Palestinians from the refugee camps in Bethlehem, were very moving. Their voice is rarely heard and one hopes that this good man will now speak on their behalf. I am afraid that the invitation to Shimon Peres and Mahmoud Abbas to pray for peace in the Vatican will achieve about as much as the years of peace talks. While Palestine remains under occupation, a word very rarely used in any reports these days, nothing will change.
