In the first reading two Sundays ago (the Baptism of the Lord), Isaiah suggested some elements of Christ’s mission, “ … to free captives from prison and those who live in darkness”. In my homily in our parish, it was said that Isaiah is not necessarily thinking of prisoners who have been convicted by the due and just process of law, but rather captives like the young man, enslaved by a family in north Sheffield, and kept in inhuman and undignified conditions.
