Pregnant women have indeed the right, the duty and the privilege to respect and nurture the lives of their unborn babies (“Where the abortion debate was lost”, 2 June), but society should make that easier by not endorsing a choice that harms them, their babies, and the practice of medicine.

To say that a parent may commendably “choose life” under strong temptation to do otherwise does not mean that offering the choice in the first place is not an atrocious legal abuse.
