All at sea


 
I fear that American cruise lines are not all quite so accommodating to Catholics and other Christians as your Notebook (“Devotion on the waves”, 21/28 December 2013) suggests. Travelling on the maiden voyage of the 4,000 passenger Norwegian Breakaway across the Atlantic last May, I was dismayed to find that there was absolutely no religious service scheduled for the Sunday at sea. An enterprising North American Catholic passenger managed to commandeer one of the lounge bars and put word around that there would be mid-morning impromptu worship. I would estimate that at least 100 people turned up.
