I fear that Tina Beattie (“Every human heart”, 14 October) draws her language from the myth of Original Sin. From an evolutionary point of view, desire is a survival mechanism and not a sign that we are fundamentally disordered by nature.  Words like disorientation, concupiscence, lust and wounded are straight out of the St Augustine lexicon.
