Queer and Catholic
Medieval astronomers saw the movement of heavenly bodies in terms of the perfect geometry of spheres. This worked well for most stars, but there were a few wanderers that didn’t obey the conventional trajectory. Eventually, people realised that if we looked at things from a different perspective, these planets were in fact following the same law of gravity, and perfection was more elliptical than we had thought. The Church took some time to accept this change.
