I have watched with dismay the recent debates in The Tablet about the role of women in the Church and the “theology of women”. It seems to me to be terribly divisive – clergy vs laity and men vs women – and it emphatically is not a Church of which I am part. I am involved as a permanent deacon with two small parishes, and the organisation and direction is largely down to dedicated women lay parishioners.
