Holy Spirit thwarted by Church leaders

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would lead his Church into all Truth.

He did not promise all Truth immediately, so the Tablet's leader on 31 October that the recent Synod was 'a snapshot of a Church in transition' has always been the case.

The problem is the Holy Spirit is easily thawted. He cannot lead the Church forward and transform the mystical Body of Christ unless the leadership recognises its own powerlessness.

There has to be a deep sense of failure that the Apostles suffered, a humility that is more than words, an absolute absense of self worth. Only then can the Holy Spirit really take over.

The achievement of St Paul is expressed in his own words. 'I no longer live. It is Christ who lives in me.'

We are greatly blessed to have Pope Francis, aware of his own shame and failures, for the Power he shows is not his own.
