Frustrating time for women

Madam,

I absolutely endorse your leader (Empowering women, 3 October) and strongly agree about this on going really frustrating situation of women's roles in the Church. The language has changed all for the better but it still needs to reflect action and a desire to promote women.

The pragmatic approach suggested is very relevant and would obviate jumping over too many 'doctrinal fences'. At Parish level we do have pertinent roles but in the hierarchy, it is I feel almost heretical too even raise the subject. This goes against all question of fairness and equality and I do hope we now have a powerful advocate in the Pope.

I too am disappointed at the lack of female voices in the Synod and this was powerfully illustrated by their testimony in Breaking rules, finding grace. This is where our sex I feel comes into its own with our unique and necessary desire to see all sides of family life and its complex situations.

They were beautifully written and imbued with common sense and empathy. Christ's compassion evoked in every nuanced line and if the powers that be cannot intuit this, they are missing out on one of their most valuable and proactive assets  they have in today's Church, namely women.

Sincerely,

Judith A. Daniels, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
