My Family My Church

Dear Editor

The consultation in 2004 " My Family My Church" which Edmund P. Adamus mentions in his letter ( the Tablet September 26th) and the subsequent report  "Not Easy but Full of Meaning?" does not seem to have had much meaning or to have been particularly credible or convincing --- at least not, it would appear, to the thousands of Catholics who have recently, in a report published by the Bishops of England and Wales, criticized quite seriously the Church teaching on Marriage and Family Life and, indeed,  the Church in general.

As has been noted in other letters there was another consultation of the Laity in 1980 called the National Pastoral Congress with its subsequent report called "The Easter People". It was, apparently, "nipped in the bud", as it were, by Pope John Paul II because it was too radical. There have been calls for another National Pastoral Congress. If another is organised (and  it seems to me to be a pretty big 'if'!) then , hopefully, in these more enlightened days of Pope Francis I, it will be allowed to blossom!
