Father Grufferty’s suggestion (The Tablet, Letters, 4 September) that bishops begin extending ordination to some laymen could be an enormously helpful one.
With sermons provided , with general absolution and with church property still under the control of the bishops, this simple change could provide the Eucharist and the Sacraments to hundreds of thousands at present without a Tridentine priest.
