We are all immigrants

I have been fortunate to be present as each of my children have slipped into this world, each one looking into my face with such trust and bewilderment before finding the comfort of their mother's breast – each one an immigrant into this strange world of newness.

It makes me think of those coming into this strange world that we so foolishly claim to possess. If we are unable to give a smile and a welcome to any of those looking so urgently for support and nutrition from us as they flee from danger, how can we claim to be lovers of the human race?
