I was interested to read your report about "overlooked" Catholic singles (News, 7 March). I am part of this demographic and have certainly noticed the emphasis of the Church on the "family", and the real concerns of single people are marginalised. This omission does need to be addressed with radical thought and appreciation.
I have no real hang-ups or problems with my single state and I do relish my freedom, and life today can be all-embracing of whatever context people live in. But this does not excuse our validity and contributions, and we should be recognised. It always appears that the hierarchy in the Church are "family-centred" and its tunnel vision is a depressing indictment and one that needs to change.
I have faith in the Pope and his on going determination to reform and reinvent. The forthcoming Synod should address this matter with a real desire to understand our own particular needs and desires.
