The Church can be guilty of denying children a mother or a father

I note in your report on gay adoption in Ireland (News, 21 February) mention of the argument by the organisation Mothers and Fathers Matter against the proposed parental rights of same-sex couples. The organisation states that "the bill will in effect deprive children in these contests of either a mother or a father.' Quite correct and I fully agree.

But is not this just what the Church does when it denies a mother or father, abandoned with young children, the right to remarry? This sort of double-think is what brings the Church and its present official morality into such disrepute, and cries out for real reform in the manner in which marriage is taught and practised.
