Business leaders deserve to be rewarded

I do not share your bafflement at the vast rewards accepted by business leaders (The Tablet, 22 January). If one spends virtually one's entire time focusing on the bottom line, what more appropriate reward than the enhancement - trivial by comparison - of one's own personal bottom line? After all, honours apart (largely political), what other recognition of their prowess is available to them? Sporting cups and trophies, Oscars, Nobel prizes, etc might satisfy their egos, but are beyond their reach, so clearly some alternative token of success should be devised. A golden dollar perhaps (or maybe a lead euro)? Whatever it is, I would make one proviso - that at least 50 per cent of the award should reflect not the bottom line, but services rendered by their businesses to society at large.
