Political climate change

Thanks to Chris Bain for his timely words on reducing climate change (“Cafod’s Bitter Medicine”, The Tablet, 15 November). Unless people reduce damaging emissions there is little hope for the suffering poor. Mr Bain warns about the potential emissions from aspirant middle classes in developing economies. Politicians respond by indulging in “targetitis” – how many degrees they say they’ll reduce by the 2020s compared to the 1990s or 2005. And economic growth will continue forever. Green Christian’s ‘Joy in Enough’ initiative, as its title says, suggests the real way we should go.
