Advice on tying the knot

I read with interest the item on male knitters (Notebook, 3 May) and also DJ Taylor’s Arts page ("Gripping Yarn"), which took me back to my own interest in the craft which was influenced by our male doctor friend, a keen knitter, Dr Marcus Broadbent, while we lived in Kenya. His advice to me after I married was, “I hope you will be busy with your wool work while your young man gets on with the woodwork."
