Cardinal backs Obama on gun curbs22 February 2013
New York's Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the US bishops' conference, last week delivered a powerful endorsement of gun control efforts in the United States, and offered rare praise for both President Barack Obama and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
"I wanted to ... highlight the President's call for sensible steps on gun control in his State of the Union address, as well as similar actions by Governor Cuomo here in New York State, and Mayor Bloomberg in New York City," Cardinal Dolan wrote on his blog.
Cardinal Dolan recalled the shooting dead of 20 children and six adults at school in Newtown, Connecticut, last December. "For me, regulating and controlling guns is part of building a Culture of Life," he wrote, adding that the Catholic Church has long advocated gun control legislation.
