Latest NewsPope praises celibate divorcees29 January 2013Pope Benedict XVI has paid tribute to divorced spouses who resist entering into another union, saying they were making a "precious sacrifice" that offered important witness to their Christian faith and the indissolubility of true matrimony. "These experiences, marked with faith, help to explain what a precious sacrifice is offered even today by the spouse who is abandoned or who has suffered divorce, if - recognising the indissolubility of the valid matrimonial bond - he or she is able not to get involved in a new union," the Pope said last Saturday in his annual address to the Roman Rota. He linked the widespread breakdown of marriages to "the current crisis of faith" affecting various parts of the world, noting the "suffering and difficulty" it brought for children.
