O’Brien: God’s love is for gays too6 November 2012
The Scottish cardinal named "Bigot of the Year" last week by gay rights group Stonewall has stressed that the Gospel speaks of a love of all people, whatever their sexual orientation.
Cardinal Keith O'Brien was speaking at a Mass on Sunday to mark the beginning of the Year of Faith in Scotland.
Cardinal O'Brien said that the Gospel had "surprised" the Christian community in Scotland for over 1,600 years.
He said: "It is that Gospel of the love of all peoples that we still hand on today - a love of male and female, a love of black and white, a love of life in the womb and life on the death bed, a love of people of whatever sexual orientation."
