Students say principal must go1 November 2012
A petition bearing hundreds of names has called for the principal of St Mary's University College, Strawberry Hill, south-west London, and other senior staff to be dismissed.
Around 450 signatories who say they are students at the college have backed calls for the "immediate removal and replacement" of the principal, Philip Esler, his deputy Janine Griffiths-Baker and vice principal Claire Taylor claiming that they are "mismanaging" the Catholic institution.
The petition follows the decision to merge the university college's school of theology, philosophy and history with the school of communication, culture and creative art, which the opponents claim was made without proper consultation of staff and students. The new petition is due to be presented to St Mary's board of governors at their next meeting.
