Bomb-attacked Christians ‘desperate’1 November 2012
Nigerian Christians are "near desperation" following Sunday's deadly suicide bombing of a church, which was the latest in a series of similar attacks.
The Archbishop of Jos, Ignatius Kaigama, told The Tablet: "The mood among lay Catholics is one of apprehension and consternation; that these terrorists can easily get away with horrible acts of criminality against innocent people is very disturbing. We as pastors have reached a state of near desperation - seeing children, women and men bombed out of existence."
Seven worshippers were killed and almost 200 people injured in Sunday's attack on St Rita's Catholic church in Malili, Kaduna.
He added: "These bombings deal a devastating blow to the unity and stability and progress of the country ... Both Christians and Muslims condemn these unjustifiable acts of violence and are co-operating to find solutions."
