Papal Mass for Vatican II veterans10 October 2012
Fourteen of the 70 bishops still living who attended at least one session of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) are due in Rome tomorrow for a papal Mass to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the council's opening and to induct formally the Year of Faith.
Among the group will be three cardinals - Nigerian Francis Arinze, 79; Brazilian Serafim Fernandes de Araújo, 88; and Italian Giovanni Canestri, 94.
At the end of the Mass Pope Benedict is due to honour Scottish Catholic composer James MacMillan - representing "the artists of the world" - by giving him a symbolic copy of the Pope Paul VI's "Message to Artists" composed 50 years ago at the end of the Second Vatican Council.
