Cardinal ‘not the father’ 8 October 2012
Cardinal Franc Rodé, former head of the Vatican's Congregation for Religious, has proved he is not the father of a 42-year-old man with whose mother he had a relationship decades ago. The cardinal, 78, underwent the test to "clear my name" after the man made the allegations, which were published in Slovenia's Delo daily. Prior to taking the test the cardinal said that the accusations were unfounded. He said: "This story is untrue and shows me in an unreal light - it concerns a friendship with a lady almost 50 years ago. I have requested the withdrawal of these false claims, and I will defend my good name and honour with all legal means."
