Dioceses divided over Vatican II6 October 2012
Dioceses in England and Wales are taking different approaches to the celebration of the Year of Faith and the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council, with some highlighting the importance of Vatican II and others focusing more on studying the creed and the catechism.
The differences of emphasis are clearly discernible, with some dioceses, such as Arundel and Brighton and Clifton, planning major celebrations of Vatican II and its teachings over the next 12 months, while others such as Shrewsbury and Lancaster focusing more on traditional devotions and outward displays of piety.
All dioceses are preparing to celebrate the Year of Faith, which begins next Thursday to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of Vatican II and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
